Six Months Old

Happy half birthday, Peanut!
{Hey Reed, when you look at Ruby is it like looking in the mirror???}
Half way to ONE, friends!  (WOW!)  And we’re finally able to wear shorts (!!!) which is especially great because Sis is beginning to stretch out her 3-6 month cold weather wardrobe, and it’s time to break out the 6-9 month summer outfits!
We headed in to the pediatrician a couple weeks ago for Ruby’s six month check-up (at 5 ½ months) and, as I was anticipating, her weight is no longer a concern (yay!).  She is nestled comfortably in the 50th percentile for both weight (15 pounds, 10 ounces) and length (25 inches).  Her head remains in the 98th - because, you know, that’s how we do things around here.  And while all of that is great… we also walked away with an Rx for an ear infection.  This has happened before (with the boys), when we go in to the doctor for a routine visit and an infection is discovered, and every time I’m both perplexed (no symptoms) and thankful (great timing to have a doctor’s appointment).  We go back tomorrow to check the ears, and for her 6-month round of immunizations.
Ruby has a strong and steady appetite.  She continues to eat about the same amount of formula as she was last month, and her palate for soft foods is growing.  She is eating 1-2 meals with baby food and cereal a day, and we’ve just about made it through introducing the first stage fruits and veggies.  She has yet to turn her nose up at any of it…but, as Drew is sure to point out, we have yet to try the dreaded peas.  We introduced the sippy cup a few weeks ago, and Ruby caught on right away to the sucking action, but she’ll need to work on the hand-eye coordination of holding her own cup.  At six months we can also start serving soft finger foods.
Her sleep routine remains steady, as well.  She will usually give us a handful of cat naps throughout the day, with one longer nap in the early afternoon, although that longer nap can remain elusive for several days in a row.  So I guess it’s more accurate to say that she naps everyday, it’s just a toss up as to how long each nap will be.
Ruby is becoming super active, and is *this close* to being steady sitting up.  She’ll lay on the floor on her back for about .2 seconds before she’ll flip to her stomach; she has rolled tummy to back as well but it doesn’t seem to be her preference.  She is even more interactive with her toys and with people, and is just a hoot to listen to as she babbles and chats and “mmmmm’s” and “ooooooo’s”.
We love her more and more every day.

Luci Turns Ten

Our first born turned 10 today.
That’s awesome and weird, all at the same time.
A new collar, a dog bone and a walk around the block.  And a rousing rendition of “Happy Birthday.”
She’s a sweet one, our Luci girl.
