Family Goals for 2016

When the new year approaches, there is usually a laundry list of goals I make for myself (usually involving projects or habits).  Perhaps only once before have I published a list of goals for our family.  I've been thinking about a lot of things lately, and connection and quality are two big themes that have emerged.  So when I think about the five of us, there are a few things I'd like to see us try this year.

1)  Try new foods.  Namely, more veggies.  Also, I'd like to try new flavors and styles of pizza for our weekly Saturday night pizza tradition.

2)  Spend less.  This falls mainly on me as I'm the primary family shopper (Brad makes the money, I spend it - seems right, right?).  I tend to fall into the trap of buying exactly what we do not need, and right now I'm very much in the mood to purge.  I tend to go through cycles, and I'm very much in a want-to-get-rid-of-all-of-the-things mood.  So, that goes hand in hand with not introducing new things to begin with.  I'm aiming to be more conscientious of what I'm buying, as well as making sure I'm buying economically (using coupons regularly, watching for sales, etc).

3)  Connect more.  This will come in the form of monthly dates, both for Brad and myself, as well as with each of the boys.  We've tried on and off to make this a regular part of our schedule, but we've failed to keep it consistent.  Each month, the boys will each have a Saturday with either mom or dad (their choice) to do an activity of their choice.  Ruby gets plenty of one-on-one time every day, but the boys could really benefit with time away from their siblings.

4)  Try something new.  I have no idea what this will be, but at this moment right now I'm feeling {surprisingly} a bit adventurous.

5)  Find a regular volunteer opportunity.  Again, no idea what this is or what it will look like, but more than ever I'm anxious to engage our children and our family in the regular practice of service.

Now to get the family on board, right?

Happy New Year, and happy goal-setting, for you and yours!
